Memorials of the past at Skatval
There are lot of memorials and sights at
Skatval. Later we will try to publish further information about them.
Many of the known memorial sites (= fornminne) are marked on the
Skatval
map.
Skatval is an old cultural area. The oldest archeological discovery at
Skatval is an 3500 year old war axe.
Steinvikholm was built in the period
1525-32 as the last fort and resort for the Chatholic church in Norway.
Today Steinvikholmen is best known as the place where the opera Olav Engelbrektsson
is performed. The opera describes the events and the last months before
the Norwegian archbishop left the country on April 1, 1537. This and
much more you may read in our publication "Skatval through the ages".
Unfortunately this publication,
Skatval gjennom tidsaldrene,
is in Norwegian only

Skatval is a railway station on the line Hell-Sunnan,
a part of the Trønderbane which was opened from
Hell to
Levanger
on October 27
1902. The station is situated 42 km from
Trondheim, 66 m altitude.
Skatval stasjon got new owners in 2001, and they have put in an
extensive restoration effort. Today the old railway station gives a very
nice impression both of the original exterior and the interior, which
has been adjusted to its new purpose as a pub and restaurant. The Pub
was opened in Spring 2003. |
